Anniversary #7

We recently celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary! We were exhausted from traveling and hosting visitors so we had a nice, quiet weekend in.

We bought a gas grill as our present to each other and started learning to grill. We made steaks, veggie skewers, and burgers and I must say, everything was delicious.

The grill!

Since we’re back in Portland, Hendrik went to Helen Bernhard Bakery, where we bought our wedding cake, to get an anniversary cake in the same flavor, chocolate with raspberry filling. I must say, it too was delicious!

Bridgetown Bridges: The Morrison Bridge

Time for another bridge! The current Morrison Bridge is the third iteration (completed 1958) and stands in the place of the first bridge in Portland that crossed the Willamette River (built 1887). It is yet another bascule bridge, this time in the Chicago style, which means the two leaves rotate around fixed axles to open. Although not particularly showy architecturally, the Morrison Bridge had something else going for it aesthetically. It is outfitted with colored LEDs to illuminate the piers, which can be set to different color schemes for different events! I’ll have to think of something creative so I can apply to choose the colors for a day.

Visitors in PDX

I guess we moved somewhere pretty cool because we have had a steady stream of visitors since the beginning of June. First we had my friend from grad school, Carol, and then Hendrik’s friend from grad school, Nick, then my family (before, during, and after Alaska), then Amy, then our friends David and Juliana, whom we met in the Netherlands, and most recently my high school friends, Michelle and Luke! I thought the house we bought was too big but with all of our guests it has been the perfect size so far. Thank you everyone for coming to see us. We had a blast!
