Nancy completed a crucial milestone this week: poodle-on-bicycle.
Yesterday Nancy took Orion to doggy daycare (with my father) with the dog riding in his new Outward Hound bag. As with everything else, Orion is bizarrely compliant about the whole situation.

My birthday was the weekend before last so Hendrik got me the traditional Helen Bernhard’s chocolate cake with raspberry filling. We fell in love with that cake flavor when we went cake tasting there for our wedding cake in 2011 and have used every excuse to buy one ever since. Nancy’s birthday? Buy a chocolate raspberry cake. Hendrik’s birthday? Buy a chocolate raspberry cake. Anniversary? Buy a chocolate raspberry cake. Dinner party? You get the idea…
This year, I asked for a quiet birthday with no surprises so we slept in, ate cake for breakfast, opened presents, walked the dog, put together a puzzle, and had dinner at Por Que No. I love it when my birthday falls on a weekend.
We went to the beach with a guest from out of town for the weekend. As part of that, we did the Cape Lookout hike:
The trail was five miles, requiring some of us to jump up and down giant tree roots. Earlier in the day we had done a long beach walk too, bringing Orion’s total distance to 10 miles for the day. He was a trooper and did great on his first hike.
